The Infected are zombies that contaminate buildings, and are the primary and only opponents in They Are Billions (excluding the ever-present risk of an economic crash).

Features[]

  • Infected are dumb, numerous, and incredibly dangerous in large numbers. Their primary mode of attack is to shamble towards any nearest target, be it a soldier, colonist, or building, and attack it. Regular issue zombies tend to be easy to take down even with rangers, but those higher up in the food chain can be a major pain to dislodge.
  • Even lone zombies shouldn't be underestimated. Each building has a defense rating, which once it expires allows zombies to enter the building and infect it. All colonists inside will then spill out outside and attack. As such, a single zombie left... Well, unattended, can trigger a colony collapse if it gets into a residential area and the infection causes the zombie presence to go from one to far too much in the span of minutes. Proper fortifications are a must.
  • Most infected remain stationary on the map, in large hordes that can be slowly taken down with patience and several good units. Of note are the infected towns you come across, which contain dwellings, taverns, and city halls that act as infected nests. Attacking the building causes it to spawn from 40 to 200 infected which are not too pleased with being disturbed. If you have the misfortune of spawning next to one, be sure to invest in proper fortifications early.
  • The largest threat comes from infected hordes that attack your colony on a regular basis. These contain dozens of infected that are hell-bent on attacking your command center and require careful preparation and management. Fortunately, hordes are still dumber than a sack of bricks and will take the most direct route to their target. This means that they will not seek out openings, but try to smash through heavily fortified areas filled with spikes and soldiers taking them apart.
